ver the years, Science has consistently stood at the forefront of publishing epigenetics research -- from pioneering work on the role of histones in gene regulation and early reviews of topics such as heterochromatin during the 1960s, to recent, groundbreaking studies in areas such as DNA methylation and RNAi. To provide additional context for the overview of the field provided in the journal's 10 August 2001 special issue on epigenetics, we present here a selection of Science Research Articles, Reports, Reviews, Perspectives, and news articles that help trace out some of the field's landmarks of the past half-decade. (Be sure also to visit our page of epigenetics Web resources, as well as other sections of the Science Functional Genomics Web site.)
