The giant Megalodon shark was three times as big as a great white, new measurements show

Thought the shark from Steven Spielberg’s Jaws was scary? Think again. For the first time, researchers have determined the 2D body size of the extinct giant shark Otodus megalodon, The Guardian reports. The fish could grow to a maximum total length of about 15 to 18 meters, researchers conclude today in Scientific Reports; comparatively, the great white shark typically measures more than 6 meters in length. The scientists also propose that O. megalodon would have been counter-shaded to better blend into its surroundings from both above and below when on the hunt.
