President Barack Obama has become the first sitting president to publish an academic paper, Forbes reports. The paper, though not peer reviewed, was fact checked for 2 months before being published in the The Journal of the American Medical Association. “United States Health Care Reform: Progress to Date and Next Steps” dives into the recommendations Obama has for the next president to improve the U.S. health care system and assesses the Affordable Care Act. It references other academic journals and government publications to support the president’s claim that the increased number of insured Americans has contributed to lower hospital readmission rates. In addition to receiving much coverage in the press, the people across social media are showing their appreciation using the hashtag #ObamaJAMA.
