Climate change claims its first mammal

This week in Australia, a tiny rodent known as the Bramble Cay melomys became the first mammal to go extinct because of climate change, The New York Times reports. The rodents and their habitats were drowned out by high sea levels and surging seawater, because of the warming of Earth and melting ice caps, researchers say. With no end to global warming in sight, scientists predict other mammals are on the verge of extinction in the near future.
