Lockheed Martin has jumped into the race to colonize Mars with a plan to build a space station around the Red Planet by 2028, National Geographic reports. The mission would use technology that the aerospace company is already building for NASA to establish a Mars Base Camp that future missions to the planet could dock at. Many specific details have not been announced yet, but the company outlined in a video a timeline of manned and unmanned practice lunar flybys, and then the establishment of an unmanned structure of modules orbiting Mars by 2026. Two years later, six astronauts would be sent to inhabit the base camp.
