Watch: Rosetta Comet Comes Alive

A comet that a European spacecraft will land on later this year has finally begun metamorphosis, ScienceAlert reports. Since May, researchers have been monitoring comet 67P closely with Rosetta, the probe that will dispatch the lander that’s scheduled for touchdown in November. This week, they reported that the speeding disk has finally begun the shift from a frozen nugget in deep space to a warm ball spewing gas as it nears the sun’s heat; soon it will grow its distinctive tail. The goal of the probe is to learn more about the evolution of a comet as it travels through space.
