Want to Keep Your Brain Healthy? Learn a Second Language

Learning a second language could help you keep your wits about you for longer, Time reports. After studying more than 850 people from childhood to adulthood, researchers found that bilinguals in their 70s were more likely to score higher on intelligence and reading tests than those who spoke only one language. The study, published online today in the Annals of Neurology, suggests that bilingualism slows cognitive decline and activates particular neurons that are responsible for skills like reasoning.
