A speckled feline that once tromped through Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Arizona can now be found in only one of those states. Thwarted by dangerous highways and vehicular impacts, only 50 ocelots remain in the southern tip of Texas today, National Geographic reports. To help create a safer environment for the species, the state Department of Transportation will install eight highway wildlife crossings for ocelots. Such installations have worked in the past for the recovery of endangered panthers.
