What Do Babies See When They See a Photograph?

Scientists have found that babies as young as 9 months can recognize real-life objects in photos, The Independent reports. After showing kids a picture of a toy for about a minute, they placed the actual toy and a different one in front of them. The results, published online this week in Child Development, describe how the babies reached out for the toy that had not been in the photograph, suggesting that they recognized the pictured toy and found it less interesting than the new item.
