What's That Mysterious Light on Mars?

In an intriguing new image captured by NASA’s Curiosity rover, there seems to be a strange light being emitted from the surface of Mars. Although many have excitedly jumped to the conclusion that it must signify alien life, Slate has settled the matter; it’s not. The light is actually just energy from a cosmic ray that was detected by the camera. According to the writer, cosmic rays get absorbed by Earth’s atmosphere so they never really affect images here, but in space they’re detected by cameras quite often.
