Students Know Less About Evolution After Taking Biology

High school students who took an introductory biology course in Oklahoma knew less about evolution at the end of the course than when they first started. Prior to instruction, researchers administered a test to students that revealed 4812 misconceptions about evolution, The Raw Story reports. Once the class was over, students took the same test and had more than 5000 errors. The study, published in Evolution: Education and Outreach, suggests that teachers are spreading misconceptions to students and that a strategy to reduce misunderstandings must be developed.
