Diet Drinks May Cause Heart Trouble

Diet sodas, teas, and fruity drinks may save you from packing on the pounds, but they also could be putting you at risk for some serious heart issues. Researchers have found that postmenopausal women who drink two or more diet beverages a day are 30% more likely to have a heart attack, stroke, or other cardiovascular problem. The heart trouble may be caused by artificial sweeteners, which have been associated with weight gain and heart disease in the past. The research was conducted as part of the Women’s Health Initiative observational study, which included nearly 60,000 females, The Huffington Post reports.
