Watch: Fire Tornadoes Explained

Try to ignore the hardcore heavy metal in this viral video and focus on the incredible fire whirl, or fire devil, occurring right before your eyes. The phenomenon was captured this month while firefighters in Colorado were conducting a controlled burn; it lasted 10 minutes and covered an area a little larger than a football field. According to National Geographic, fire tornadoes are closely related to dust devils and occur when shifting winds and intense heat combine.
