Pandas Have a Sweet Tooth, Too
Chowing down on some 9 to 14 kilograms of bamboo a day, giant pandas may seem like health nuts, but don’t be fooled; researchers have found that like us, they crave sweets. To learn about their taste preferences, scientists gave pandas the option of choosing between plain old water and water mixed with one of six natural sweeteners, including fructose and sucrose. According to the results, published today in PLOS ONE, the pandas preferred all the natural sugary solutions, but didn’t seem to care for artificially sweetened water.
