Facebook Feelings Are Contagious

If a friend in your Facebook network posts a positive update, you’re likely to catch on to the good vibes and write something optimistic yourself. According to scientists who analyzed more than a billion status updates, emotions are contagious on the social networking site, where negative posts beget negative posts and positive posts beget positive ones. The researchers suggest that the findings, published today in PLOS ONE, may have widespread implications for the public’s well-being if they can learn how to magnify the effects and create an epidemic of happiness.
