U.K. Universities Ordered to Release Data

Five U.K. universities—including powerhouses Oxford and Cambridge—were ordered by a court yesterday to release details on primates used in research in response to a request from the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection. Although nine other universities had already complied with the group's 2006 request, made under the Freedom of Information Act, the five named in yesterday's decision had declined due to concerns about exposing researchers to attacks from animal-rights extremists.
