Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT) is a high-level university that aims to develop chemical talent at the cutting-edge of science and technology. The university was established in 1958 and formerly known as the Beijing Institute of Chemical Technology. As a national key university directly affiliated to the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, and as one of the Project 211 universities and 985 Project Innovation Platforms, BUCT has responsibilities for basic and applied scientific research; original, high-tech development; and the training of high-level, innovative talent.

With half a century of history, BUCT has become a multi-disciplinary university with a solid foundation in science and engineering, as well as other distinctive disciplines such as management, economics, law, literature, education, philosophy, medical sciences. The university is a multi-level training system for undergraduates, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and students from foreign countries. BUCT has a total of 14 colleges with 15,331full-time undergraduate students; 7,055 full-time graduate students (including 953 PhD students). BUCT has about 2,500 faculty members. Faculty members include: 8 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Science and the Chinese Academy of Engineering and 5 foreign academicians.

The university in research has been increasing steadily. The discipline of chemistry has entered the top 1‰ of the ESI ranking, the three disciplines of materials science, engineering, biology and biochemistry have entered the top 1% of the ESI ranking. Chemical engineering and technology rank third in the fourth round of Disciplines Evaluation in the country. In 2017, our school's "green chemistry and materials" Discipline Group officially ranked among the first-class disciplines. The transformation of scientific and technological achievements in university has been continuously strengthened. The school adheres to the construction of a service-oriented and innovative country, leads the transformation and upgrading of enterprises, promotes economic and social development, and builds a Beijing Advanced Innovation Center for soft matter science and Engineering. BUCT has been committed to industrialization and the transformation of high-tech achievements, and has been qualified as a "National University Science and Technology Park." The science and technology industry of BUCT has about 30 science and technology industrial entities, which are closely integrated with teaching and scientific research at the university. There are 73 platforms for teaching and research bases at or above the provincial and ministerial levels, five local research institutes, six technology transfer centers and 112 joint research and development institutes of advanced materials and Industrial Biotechnology.
