Let’s celebrate! Science Translational Medicine launched in 2009 with the aim of publishing biomedical research at all stages of translation, from the bench to the bedside and back again. In honor of our 10th anniversary in 2019, we commissioned a monthly Focus series entitled “Science Transforming Medicine” to commemorate progress made in biomedicine over the past decade. Many of today’s clinical realities were at an early, preclinical stage when the journal launched in 2009; other promising approaches failed to come to fruition despite a decade of work. Science Transforming Medicine highlights important advances in translational research fields achieved over the past decade, and also looks forward to the future. This series authored by field experts features papers published in Science Translational Medicine during the early years of the journal. Focus articles discuss how the field, therapy, or topic covered in those early Science Translational Medicine papers advanced over the past decade, as well as barriers still to be surmounted to translate advances into improved treatments for patients. This Focus series spans all areas of biomedicine, from liquid biopsies to bioelectronics. Access the Science Transforming Medicine booklet here and the twelve individual Focus articles below:
