A new age in scanning electron microscopy: Applications in the life sciences

The basic design and concept of the electron microscope has not changed much since its development in the 1930’s, although incremental improvements in power and resolution have been achieved over the decades. More recently, the application of scanning electron microscopy in the biological sciences has enjoyed something of a renaissance, in part because of recent advances in EM technology. This booklet will introduce the reader to a sample of these new technologies and describe how they are being applied in the life sciences.
