It’s time for a summer break

Promoting good work-life balance is important to us here at Science Careers. So, with summer coming to a close, we’ll be taking a break next week to dig into some exciting new stories. But don’t worry—there are plenty of articles from our archive to tide you over.

Are you reaching the end of a summer internship? Check out these suggestions for how to get a great recommendation letter out of it.

Perhaps in the upcoming academic year you want to work on developing transferable skills, such as the ability to maintain good relationships and communicate clearly. These stories of initiative, engagement, and learning from mistakes offer some inspiration.

Or if you feel like now is the time to try something totally new, a fluid dynamics blogger, an academic entrepreneur, and a chocolate scientist show you how it can be done.

If you’re looking to kick a job search into high gear, remember to network, network, network.

And if you feel like you haven’t been able to take enough of a summer break yourself, here is a reminder of the potential benefits of taking some time off.

When we return, we’ll kick off the new academic year with a round-up of articles about how to hit the ground running. See you then.
