What's New

AAAS Digitizes the Archives of Science from 1880-1996
Introducing Science Classic, "Science Since 1880..."

Science Classic is the NEWLY digitized full-text archive of Science from AAAS featuring the collection from issue 1, 1880 through 1996. It's the perfect complement to Science Online's content featuring issues from 1997-today. Science Classic is integrated with the current content of Science Online, making it easier to search the entire collection.

From cover to cover, every page of the back issue file prior to 1997 has been scanned as a high-resolution PDF which offers the sharpest and highest quality text possible. Each article is a fully searchable PDF. The PDF files have been optimized for fast web transmissions and excellent print quality.

Science readers may now have desktop access to a wealth of scientific literature. This archival content includes groundbreaking Research Articles and Reports, News of the Week and News Focus, Letters, Books et al., Policy Forum, Perspectives, Reviews, Association Affairs, Technical Comment Abstracts, Brevia, even advertisements found in the print issues published before 1997.

Science Classic articles, full-text indexed and searchable, provide the end user with a new, more powerful searching tool with the same flexible retrieval capabilities. Each article's bibliographic citation, abstract, and references have been rekeyed in an interactive HTML file. This feature allows dynamic linking to: other Science articles across the complete collection, over 900 HighWire hosted journals providing toll-free access to thousands of articles, and finally, coming soon, the primary source or secondary databases through CrossRef/DOI, PubMed, and ISI Web of Science.

Access to Science Classic is included with AAAS membership. Institutional access requires a separate subscription.

Gaps in Backfiles
Sourcing of backfile volumes for digitization can be difficult for some journals and for older material in particular. If you spot any missing issues or missing articles within the digitized backfile, please let us know by contacting sc-feedback{at}aaas.org. The three issues noted below are missing and we are in the process of tracking them down. Donations are welcome.
1. Volume 3, No. 80, Jan. 14, 1882
2. Volume 3, No. 81, Jan. 21, 1882
3. Volume 3, No. 82, Mar. 4, 1882

Gaps in Reference Links
We are still setting up the reference links and therefore some are missing. We appreciate your patience until we complete this process.
