Mona Lisa: A Montage of Scientific Images
Credit: Louis Borgeat, François Blais, and John Taylor of the National Research Council, Canada, and Christian Lahanier of the Centre de recherché et de restauration des museés de France [see complete credits]

This Mona Lisa "montage" depicts the information obtained by analyzing da Vinci's painting using the latest scientific imaging technologies such as a 3D scanner and a polychromatic 13-band multispectral camera. The project filled in details of the work's unique pattern of cracks, provided an estimation of its original color, and demonstrated da Vinci's sfumato painting technique.
