David Yager relied on technologies old and new to capture this Cuban banana cockroach. He laid the dead roach on its back on a bed of glass beads and took multiple snapshots at different depths of field through a regular dissecting microscope. He then used image-processing software to merge 12 separate frames, giving rise to a clear and detailed "Cockroach Portrait."
