This winning photograph by geologists James Aber and Susan Aber reveals the sinuous landforms of Estonia's Männikjärve bog. To capture the intricate patterns and striking colors, they used a conventional digital camera in an unconventional way -- they attached it to a kite that flies 50 to 150 meters high and operated it from the ground like a radio-controlled model airplane.
