An estimated 3000 researchers from 20 Chinese Academy of Science institutes, 50+ universities, and 300+ industry enterprises are now engaged in nanoscience R&D. Bai's research team alone (left) is a testament to the attention the field is getting. To become more competitive in nanotechnology, China will need to continue expanding its limited research infrastructure. But all of the signs suggest that it will become a leading contributor in the coming years.
