Jurgenne H. Primavera, Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Centre

Jurgenne Primavera, author of this month's essay, is a senior scientist in the Aquaculture Department of the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development center based in Iloilo, in the central Philippines. For more than two decades she has been a tireless champion of promoting sustainable, mangrove-friendly aquaculture practices. Earlier this year, she was chosen as a Pew Fellow in that organization's program in marine conservation.
