In the 28 July 2006 issue of Science, contributing correspondent Jon Cohen surveys the state of HIV and AIDS, and the battle against them, in 12 Latin American and Caribbean countries. Cohen and photographer Malcolm Linton visited clinics, brothels, laboratories, shooting galleries, ministries of health, gay sex clubs, universities, slums, migrant way stations, prisons, and the homes of many people who struggle to live with the virus.
