Where the Malaysia Airlines Flight Might Lie

Remnants of the missing Malaysia Airlines flight may have sunk as far down as 7883 meters into the sea—about the height of 20 Empire State Buildings stacked together. A new topographic map of a portion of the sea floor in the Indian Ocean details the terrain where signals were heard from the jet’s flight recorders. The illustration, which represents a 2000-by-1400-kilometer area, may help searchers choose appropriate underwater vehicles to use in their continued hunt for the plane.
