Watch: The Making of NASA's Global Selfie

NASA has created a massive 3.2-gigapixel image of Earth—all from selfies. Dubbed the “Global Selfie,” the goal was to create a mosaic of the planet showing what it looked like on Earth Day by asking the public to take pictures of themselves from wherever they were. More than 50,000 selfies were submitted, but exactly 36,422 were used from regions on every continent, ranging from Antarctica to Yemen, Greenland to Guatemala, and more. The result is an in-depth, zoomable image that anyone can explore.
