Trump freeze blocks bee from joining endangered species list

Environmentalists are worried that a 60-day executive freeze on new regulations will have dire consequences for the rusty patched bumble bee, originally slated to join the endangered species list Friday. A pollinator of plants including blueberries and tomatoes, the bee has “disappeared from about 90 percent of its range in the past 20 years” and would have been the first bee to make the list, writes ABC News. But now, it will have to wait until at least 21 March—and conservationists worry that President Donald Trump’s promise to cut back regulations overall may mean the bee will never receive endangered species act protections and will go extinct.
