T. rex's Microbes Launched Into Space

The microbes of a 67-million-year-old Tyrannosaurus rex will rocket from Earth by the end of today. Scientists who swabbed the fossils of Sue, a dino that sits in the Field Museum in Chicago, are sending her bacteria to the International Space Station. As part of Project MERCCURI, 47 other microbes are headed on the same journey, including samples from football fields, a toilet, and the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia. The goal is to see how microorganisms from around Earth grow and behave in space, National Journal reports.
