Whale watchers are being treated to an unusual sight this summer: Giant humpback whales feeding within sight of New York City’s iconic skyline. The sightings are the result of increasing numbers of whales and sharks in the waters off the Big Apple this year, The Guardian reports. But there’s a downside: There’s been an uptick in ship-whale collisions in nearby shipping lanes, and some beachgoers are nervous about great white shark sightings. So far, however, the closest shark has been more than 2 kilometers off the boardwalk.
