The Netherlands Gets Glow-in-the-Dark Roads

A 500-meter stretch of road in the Netherlands has gained a futuristic look; its markings now glow in the dark. As part of Smart Highway, a project by Studio Roosegaarde, designers and engineers are working to make European roads safe and sustainable. Using photo-luminescent powder and road paint, the studio teamed up with a construction company to create a dye that charges during the day with sunlight and illuminates the contours of the road for up to 8 hours at night, Wired UK reports.
