This Laser Can Detect Alcohol in Cars

A new device will help police wrangle a lot more drunk drivers. Researchers have developed a laser that can detect alcohol vapors, like those exhaled by a drunk driver, in cars, The Huffington Post reports. The device, described in the Journal of Applied Remote Sensing, can sense small concentrations of alcohol—as little as 0.1%—in moving cars that are 20 meters away. The researchers suggest that the laser can be set up on the sides of roads to monitor vehicles as they drive by.
