How to Keep Windmills From Shredding Birds

Scientists are designing new wind turbines to reduce the number of birds chopped up by their blades, National Geographic reports. The problem is that birds don't pay much attention to what's ahead; instead, they look down, so tempting them to lower their altitude by changing something on the ground might work better. To put things in perspective, windmills are a relatively minor threat to birds; as Bloomberg's Tom Randall noted last week, their bird-murdering capacity pales in comparison with power lines, cats, and buildings.
