Half of all alien worlds may have two suns

Planets like Tatooine, the fictional home of Luke Skywalker in Star Wars, with two suns may be more common than first thought. Astronomers using the WIYN telescope at Kitt Peak in Arizona and Gemini North in Hawaii took a look at stars identified by NASA’s Kepler spacecraft as hosts for exoplanets and found that 40% to 50% of them were actually binaries, they report in a paper accepted by The Astrophysical Journal. Living on a planet in such a system, nightfall could be a rare event.
