Exercise is good for your gut bacteria, too

Having some stomach issues? A run could help. Researchers in Ireland have found that exercise might spur healthy gut bacteria, LiveScience reports. Stool and blood samples were taken from professional rugby players and compared with a group of obese men as well as a group with normal BMIs that do less exercise than the athletes. The findings, published online this week in Gut, show that the athletes had a greater diversity of gut microbes and more kinds of bacteria that are associated with better health.
