A cloudy look at predicting teenage drinking

Knowing which teenagers will become binge drinkers would be a great help to their parents, not to mention public health authorities. National Geographic’s Phenomena blog reports on a new Nature study of 692 European teenagers that hopes to develop a predictive model based on brain structure, personality and cognitive differences, and environmental factors. The results: Crunching the numbers provides clues about risk factors, but not enough information to recommend actual intervention strategies.
