Clouds Circle Black Holes

Clouds Circle Black Holes

Once thought to be fog, astronomers are discovering that clouds circle supermassive black holes. After sifting through the last 16 years of records collected by a NASA satellite that measured x-rays emitted from black holes, researchers noticed multiple instances when x-ray signals the satellite logged dimmed for periods of time, they report in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society. The dimming is believed to be caused by a cloud passing and interrupting the signal between the black hole and the satellite.
