Bridgmanite: The most abundant mineral on Earth

Though we’ve known about it for years, the planet’s most bountiful mineral has barely been named. Dubbed bridgmanite in honor of Nobel laureate Percy Bridgman, a physicist, the substance can be found between 670 and 2900 kilometers below Earth’s surface. The depth means it can’t be easily examined, National Geographic reports. Luckily, scientists recently got a chance to scrutinize the mineral when they found it in a meteorite that plummeted to Earth.
