Babysitting Keeps Grandma Sharp

Babysitting the grandkids once a week has a positive effect on grandma’s brainpower, AARP reports. But don’t overdo it, scientists say. A study of 120 Australian grandmothers found that those who babysat five times a week did worse on cognitive tests measuring memory and mental processing speed. The results, published in Menopause, suggest that the social engagement and mental stimulation that occurs when caring for young ones can reduce the likelihood of dementia.
