Ancient Marine Reptile Graveyard Unearthed

A mass graveyard filled with 46 fossils of marine reptiles, or ichthyosaurs, has been discovered near a glacier in Chile, LiveScience reports. The excellently preserved bones date back to about 146 million years ago and include the remnants of pregnant females, juveniles, soft tissue, and embryos. The abundance of bodies, described in the Geological Society of America Bulletin, has led paleontologists to suspect that the creatures were killed in a powerful mudslide that swept them away and drowned them in what was then an ocean abyss.
