Ancient embalming workshop unearthed in Egypt

Archaeologists working at Egypt’s Saqqara necropolis have uncovered a rare find: an ancient embalming workshop, complete with labeled oils, measuring cups, gilded sarcophagi, and five mummies in a nearby burial shaft, The Guardian reports. Even more unusual was the discovery of a gilded silver and onyx mummy mask (above), which suggests the site remained untouched by grave robbers. The workshop, first excavated in the late 19th century, but re-examined in 2016, is providing a wealth of knowledge about early mummification techniques, scientists say.
