Thanks to a new device that decodes bat screeches, researchers now understand a little more about what the creatures communicate about. And apparently, they’re usually bickering, The Guardian reports. Using a type of artificial intelligence, the researchers programmed a machine to recognize 15,000 calls from seven individual bats, the team showed in the journal Scientific Reports. They were even able to decipher what the disagreements were about, such as sharing food or crowding sleep space. Such arguments accounted for more than 60% of their vocalization, the researchers found.
