Galactic map shows hydrogen atoms in Milky Way in breathtaking photo

An international team of astronomers joined forces to create the most detailed map of neutral hydrogen, the universe’s most abundant element, released late last month in Astronomy and Astrophysics. A task so extraordinary would of course take not one, but two state-of-the-art radio telescopes on opposite sides of the world to complete, Gizmodo reports. The clarity of the image could help researchers find out how our galaxy gets the gas necessary to build new stars, and where neighboring dwarf galaxies may be located.
