Science story wins top Newsbrief Award

Two Science online news stories have taken honors in this year’s D.C. Science Writers Association’s annual Newsbrief Awards, which recognize the best in short-form news writing. Former intern Emily Conover won top prize for her ScienceShot "How to prevent a sheep traffic jam,” which related how scientists applied the principles of fluid dynamics to an unusual problem. And Science’s neuroscience writer Emily Underwood nabbed an honorable mention for “Rats forsake chocolate to save a drowning companion," a story that showed that even rodents have a well-developed sense of empathy.
