U.S. Ebola patient dies

The first person to be diagnosed with Ebola in the United States, Thomas Eric Duncan, has died in a Texas hospital from the viral disease. Duncan was infected in Liberia, probably when he helped transport a woman sick with Ebola to a clinic. He flew to the United States on 19 September; a week later, he visited the emergency room but was sent home, undiagnosed. He returned 2 days later in an ambulance.

*The Ebola Files: Given the current Ebola outbreak, unprecedented in terms of number of people killed and rapid geographic spread, Science and Science Translational Medicine have made a collection of research and news articles on the viral disease freely available to researchers and the general public.
