Islamic State halts archaeology in Kurdistan

In recent years, Kurdistan has become a mecca for archaeologists, with a rich past stretching back to the world’s earliest civilizations along the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. But the region of the Fertile Crescent is just where the Islamic State group has gained ground, destroying or seeking to sell ancient relics. Now, many important sites in Kurdistan, too, are unsafe, The Art Newspaper reports.
