Painting Robot Can Pass for Surgeon

Painters are known for their delicate and skillful strokes with a paintbrush—not a scalpel. But a new robot that’s been taught to paint the lines and shapes a surgeon makes while operating shows that the professions may not be all that different from each other. The robot—made at Wake Forest University—could aid in the future design of completely autonomous robot surgeons, and doctors may also be able to use it to observe and prepare for complex surgeries.
