Mars recently took a big hit. An image released by NASA this week shows a stunning crater that’s about 30 square meters in diameter—about the same length as an NBA basketball court. The impact threw material as far as 14 kilometers away and is projected to have occurred somewhere between July 2010 and May 2012. Although the Red Planet is constantly bombarded by rocks, they usually don’t leave such dramatic scars.
